The factory thermostat temperature on both the 2.5 WLAT and 3.0 WEAT engines is around 85c, fully open by 95c which in performance applications or when towing heavy leaves little head room for oil temperature to remain within the limits of thermal breakdown, along with little head room in coolant temp also, due to the oil cooler being a coolant based heat exchanger in the side of the block.

this thermostat is set to begin opening at 76c, which what is considered running temperature in the factory ecu calibration, while ensuring it is fully open by 85-88c, increasing your ability to operate at high load for an extended period of time, with oil temperatures 10-15c above coolant temp, this specific temperature thermostat is where we find the oil is hot enough to reach its ideal viscosity, while being cold enough to stop it reaching over 110c while working hard. 

this is the same thermostat we have run in all our vehicles including the Project bt50 @480hp atw, and have had very good results, we have tried multiple different thermostats from different brands, some of which caused temperature fluctuations, slow warm ups, or ran too cold in general, we find this temperature and specific thermostat works the best and achieves the most stable cooling system control.
